Website that I enjoy visiting

A website that I use to visit frecuently it's "Investigación y Ciencia" .
Here you can find "news" about all the ciencies, so it's like read the paper news and it feels more closly to the people.
Cover done back in 2005
for Scientific American Magazine
on DNA Computing.

This website is the Spain edition of the Scientific American, a magazine founded in 1845 wich deliver science and technology information in a way understandable for every people, no matter the level of science background on them.

The website it's organizated by cronological news. Also has sections of magazines, news, Scilog, Subjects, and much more. It's really useful when you want to read some new information, but not with complicated words.

I used to visit this website 4 times at week when I was on school, but now I only visit it 1 or 2 times at week because I really have to study a lot.

I really like this site, because it is closly to the people, and because you can learn really too much about what is the "new" discovering of the science, but on simple words. Actually I introduced this site to my mom to read it, and she (without a good level of science background) love it, and now can understand some things that I talk on the car when I visit her. It's amazing.

My favorite Book and Film are...

I have always preferred books than other things. I love literature. I love to read and write short histories, and I also can spend a big part of my summer reading books because later they turn part of me.
The Catcher in the Rye -
J. D. Salinger
On 2015, on my school list of books for the year appeared "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D Salinger. We read it on June. I got in love with the story and the kind of writing. This book drives me to another planet, and also makes me think about some situations of my life, turning on a spirit of auto conscient of my growing up.
What makes it attractive is that the story illustrates a teenager's dramatic struggle against death and growing up. Holden (the protagonist) tell's his own history, in his words like if he was speaking aloud to you. Holden resists to maturation.
Mark David Chapman
(If you take a look you can see
The Catcher in the Rye
between his hands)
Although, the book has something that makes some people turn on they murder spirit. The most contended case of it is the John Lennon's death by Mark David Chapman. The story says that Chapman read the book and when he ended it, he decided to kill Jhon. There's a lot of histories like this, but no one can explain what thing of this book makes some people a killer.

It's weird but I prefer books than movies, so it's difficult to me chose one movie as my favorite.
On the summer of 2016, my sister recommended me a movie. She said to me: "You will love it! It`s about a scientist". Some days later I watched it, and from this day I have watched this movie a thousand of times. It's fantastic!.
The movie is called "I Origins", and it's about a molecular biologist doctor that studies the eye. Then he falls in love with a spiritual woman that change his world.
What makes this movie fascinating its that after the death of the girl, Ian (the protagonist) uncover the possibility of the reincarnation of the souls.
Definitely, if you are a scientist, you have to watch this movie.

I recommend this ones because they connect with the soul of one of us. This book and this movie can change the way we think about the world and of our existence. Sometimes it's good to stop our hurry life and think about ourselves.

My Favorite Photograph

Me and Agustín (5 years old)
On winter of 2016, I started a new step of my life. I decided to enter on Gesta, Foundation destined to children who has not guaranteed their rights.
On winter and summer vacations, people on this foundation, is grouped around of schools with lows resources, and for a week do activities for make explicit the children rights to the boys and girls who came to find a place to play, talk, draw, run or everything they want with us.
It's beautiful to see how much love they can give to you and how much you can learn about them.

Photos of this times are my favorites, but the favorite one is a picture toked on January of 2017 by my friend Diego. I was playing with Amalia, a girl of 6 years old, to find the missed treasure. As you can see, she was with a costume of a pirate for make it more real. She was really exited and happy with the game. At the end, she finalized saying to me "I love you to much, "tía" Andrea". Those memories fills my heart and brings me energy for every difficulty of my day, and thats why I like this picture so much.

The love of the kids its amazing, but there's other thing wonderful too. As a team, we understand each other as a family. We are really close friends, and if something is wrong with one of us, we work on group to help the one whose sad, or stressed. Also we make parties and we have fun together. I don't know what i would do without this team, I love them too much.

Music in my life

It's simple. Music is part of us.
Every situation has a song, and if there's not, we can creat it.
Music it's literature and melody combinated in perfect sincronization to express the deeper feelings of our hearts.

I really don't remember the music I used to like when I was a child. I just remeber that I used to like everything that my sister used to listen, so that includes music of groups like "La oreja de Van Gogh" , "Kudai" and "Belinda".

Years later I got fanatic (and when I say fanatic, i really mean that I got crazy) of Avril Lavigne. I used to hear her music ALL the day. My family was bored of the same songs all the day, all the week, all the month and all the year. So after 3 years of torture they decided to give me for birthday gift a ticket for one of her shows. IT WAS AMAZING. But after that, I don't know why, i stoped to listen her. Actually now I dont like it.

After that, I traveled to Finland as an Exchange student, and probably for the distance, I started to listen chilean music. Untill now, Chilean music is my favorite.
It's weird but my favorite Singer it's Violeta Parra. She is ART.
But also I like others chilean singers and bands, like Victor Jara, Chancho en Piedra, Los Prisioneros, Francisca Valenzuela, Mon Laferte, Villa Cariño and Los Tetas.
This ones are my favourite songs of this singers and bands, if you want to hear one.

Violeta Parra - Run Run Se Fue Pal Norte
Victor Jara - Deja La Vida Volar
Chancho En Piedra - Animales Disfrazados
Los Prisioners - Quien mató a Marilyn?
Francisca Valenzuela - Prenderemos Fuego Al Cielo
Mon Laferte - Soy
Villa Cariño - Serenata Cruel
Los Tetas - La Medicina

As you can see, I like all types of music, but Chilean.

It's dificult to define an instrument that I like the most. But I love the guitar played as Violeta does. I think that guitar is the instrument more esential for bands now.
I'm really a mess in music. I never learnd to play an instrument, but almost all my friends play one.
I have friends who plays the bajo, others who plays the viola, and others who play the drums.
I just dance.

When I was younger, I was on a dance Company. We used to dance movies songs, so the ones who I remember the most are the introduce songs of The aristocats, Spirit, Alice in the  wonderland, Footlose and Saturday night fever.
In resume, music has been always part of my life, for listening or for dancing.
Thanks.

My favourite pice of technology

My generation, luckily born in the boom of technology. Things started to change dramatically, and in one year the same object were 100 times better than it was before. Also things started to be more chipper and accesible, so almost of population had something technologic in their houses.

Old telephone of my house.
Definitely for me the most important pice of technology is the telephone. When I was a child, the most exciting thing were call your friends and talk for hours after school. Also were really exciting call my uncle that lived in Santiago. Telephones makes distance shorter.
So practically I always had a telephone in my home, but my own cellphone arrived on the 2008 Christmas. I were really happy and I get crazy downloading ringtones for it.
After that, I had 7 different models of cellphones. In the beginnings I used it for call people, but after some years cellphones get more usefully for text people, do some maths problems, search on the internet, and now it's practically for everything. So that's why I use it almost all the day.
Resultado de imagen para jovenes y celularesI like it because makes my day easier and also because makes me be on contact with people who I love. I think that my life without it will be a completely mess. I probably get late to all my meetings, and I will miss my mum and family so much that I will search a place closer to them for study.
The important thing is not to know, but to have the number of the one that knows"

Why did I choose Bio-Chemistry?
Resultado de imagen para juguetes de doctor
One of my first Christmas, about 15 years ago, I recived a toy pack with doctors implements. I was fascinated with them, and everyone in my family started to say that I should be a doctor. So I close my mind to this career, and started to gather info about it. Actually, since I was a good student, all of my teachers approved the idea and push me to keep that career like the best one for me. I was 13 when I started to love biology more than other subjects. And also at this age I discovered my talent for chemistry. It was in perfect concordance with medicine, so nothing make me doubt.

Later, when I was 15, I started to work in foundations that helped child on social risk, and I realized that I have to do something to help them. So I believed that give them a good system of health was the only way to help, probably because I was mentalizaded with medicine as my only career. As you can see, I related all of my stuff with medicine. But my only problem with study it started when I realized that if I become a doctor I will not investigate. I wanted to find new deseases, or find the cure for deseases that hadn't one, and doctors don't work on that. So there's when Bio-Chemistry appeared in my life. This new career revolutionized my perfect and paute world. I started to doubt, and unfortunately on my last year of school i got really sick, so I decided to give me one year to get better and decide what career will make me happy. But my mom, convinced me for take the PSU, even without study for it. When I get the results I could have enter in both careers, so I had to toke a decision. I was really confused, and I really search on everywhere and talk with everyone. But nothing happens utill I talk with my chemistry teacher. She says me that with my mind I could help really much people being a bio-chemistry and finding new information than being a doctor on a permanent hospital.
And that's why I'm here, because I just wanna help people and use all of my talents for it. Being here has been the best experience of my life, and defiantly its the career of my life. I have found new friends and new hobbies. At this moment I don´t know what kind of job I wanna have, but it´s between genetic or neuro-biology. I really LOVE bio-chemistry.

About Me

My name is Andrea Flores, second child of my parents and the youngest of all my family. I'm catalogued as the "baby" and everyone's always worried about me. Now, as revenge, i'm always laughing about them because their getting too old.
Mom's a book-keeper. She works many hours at day and probably is always tired, but she never stop smiling.
Dad is the boss on a fruit company. He's a crazy man, is always making jokes and laughing.
Perhaps thats why they get in love.  They are always having a good time together.
My sister is older than me. She studies engineering at Universidad de Chile. We are really close and we spend a lot of  time talking and shopping together.
I have a really nice family, and thats makes me the person who I become.

I grow up on Curicó, a small town on the 7th region of Chile. I studied in Instituto San Martín, place where i found friends, love and my passion, rhythmic gymnastic.
I have practiced it for 11 years , and I wont stop. It really fulls me and makes me happy. On 2015 me and my group get the second place on the nationals, we are getting better every year.
Also i'm volunteer on the hospital and on my school, helping children to get relax and forget their problems. I love their smilies faces after an evening work, it makes me feel that I'm making something wonderful.

Now i'm studying bio-chemistry in Universidad de Chile. I'm living alone and I see my friends and family just 2 days on the month. Also my boyfriend is studying too, so we can't meet periodically.  It has been difficult, but strange as it hears, I'm really happy. I'm making my dream come true and I hope everything ends well. I will still searching for new challenges and if it gets hard, I will fight for my dream again. As the typical phrase says " The middle of adventure such a perfect place to start...".

Ps: here goes a pick of me and my team when we get the 3rd place on the nationals.
Also goes a link of a video that shows my hospital volunteer. Enjoy. "Proyecto Repartiendo Sonrisas"
